Seven Hills Running Club
Huntsville, Texas

2017 Club Officers

      Steve Allen, President

    Darren Grant, Vice President

Darren Grant ran his first road race, a 5 miler, in 1979.  Since then, he has served two years as a high school cross country coach, three as President of the Seven Hills Running Club, and four as the Director of the Huntsville Half Marathon.  He writes a semi-monthly column about running, "Running Shorts," in the Huntsville Item.

     Melissa Davis, Secretary

Melissa began running in 2010 and as fate would have it, ran her first race, a 5K, at the historic Huntsville Half. It was gorgeous, hilly, and electricity was in the air. After moving to Sam Houston National Forest and beginning to run trails, the fresh air, scenery, and exhilaration of running through the trees captured her spirit. While working as a welder in plants and shops, spending endless hours in nature became the perfect balance as well as a fantastic source of inspiration for her art. The most beautiful and surprising element of running, however, are the close friendships formed on the trails and roads through the Seven Hills Running Club and as an ambassador of TROT (Trail Racing Over Texas).

    Dana Formon, Registrar

I began running in 2011 just for the sake of fitness after retiring from a career in dance. Soon thereafter, I registered for a half-marathon to give myself a challenge and have been running ever since. I moved to Huntsville in 2013 to get my PhD in Clinical Psychology, and have been a member of the Seven Hills Running Club since then. While 5- and 10K distances are fun, I find the most fun in running 10-milers and half-marathons. Running challenges me and gives me time away from my coursework; through SHRC, I have also gained a wonderful and supportive running family.

   Ken Johnson, Treasurer

Ken co-founded the club in 1985 and served numerous terms as President and Vice President. He began running in 1961 and racing in 1983. Ken has completed over 990 races, to include 101 marathons and ultra-marathons. His book, How to Put on a Road Race, has sold in all 50 states and many foreign countries.
